The nutrition of pets is crucial to ensure a healthy, disease-free, shiny coat, and active life. Here are important issues that pet owners should know:

THE RIGHT TIME TO WEAN AND TRANSITION TO SOLID FOOD FOR CATS AND DOGS

- Most cat and dog puppies begin eating solid food at around 3-4 weeks old. Therefore, the best time for weaning is typically around 7-8 weeks old. If separated from the mother too early, they can be susceptible to illnesses as mother's milk provides essential nutrients and antibodies to fight common diseases.

- When cat and dog puppies start eating solid food, it's a good idea to mix three parts of food with one part of water or a milk substitute for easier digestion. If transitioning to a Raw Food diet for Cats and Dogs, the ideal time is around 2 months old.

Feeding Dogs Properly

How many meals do dogs eat a day?

- Puppies under 4 months old: feed them four times a day.

- Puppies between 4-6 months old: three meals a day.

- Dogs older than 6 months: two meals a day. Stick to a strict feeding schedule.

How to calculate the amount of food for dog

A dog's daily food intake generally accounts for 2-3% of its body weight. For example, a 10kg dog should be fed 200-300g of food per day. Adjust the portion according to each dog's growth and appetite, aiming for 2%, 2.5%, or 3% of body weight.

FEEDING METHODS FOR DOGS AND CATS TO STAY HEALTHY

Free Feeding

You pour the food into a bowl, allowing your pet to eat whenever they want. This method is suitable for dry food and for busy owners who don't have time to feed pets at specific times.

  • Advantages: Owners don't have to worry about being home at specific times to feed their pets.

  • Disadvantages: If you have multiple pets, stronger ones may bully weaker ones and prevent them from eating. There's also a risk of obesity if the pet eats too much.

Scheduled Feeding

This method is recommended by experts. It allows you to adjust the food for overweight or underweight pets. It also allows for better control of adding supplements or vitamins to the food. Furthermore, the feeding time is an opportunity for you to bond with your pet during the day.

IMPORTANT

Your pet may experience diarrhea if you change their diet abruptly. When switching to a new food, mix two parts of the old food with one part of the new food for about 2 days. The next two days, mix two parts of the new food with one part of the old food. Afterward, you can feed the new food entirely.
