TEACHING PETS TO EAT RAW FOOD CORRECTLY

22.04.2024

Feeding pets Raw Food is not unfamiliar; however, numerous pawrents still hesitate when introducing the concept to their pets. For pets at different stages and circumstances, different feeding methods are essential. Let's find out the simplest ways to properly feed raw food to your pets with Hi Raw!

ADULT DOGS AND CATS

  • Step 1: At the beginning of the raw food journey, avoid feeding organs to your animal friends.

Suggestion: The most suitable initial meal should contain more bones to maintain firm stool compared to other types of food. The typical ratio for introducing raw food to pets is 94% lean meat (white meat) and 6% edible bones (soft bones like cartilage). The daily feeding portion for dogs and cats over one-year-old is 5-8% of their body weight.

  • Step 2: Gradually add new ingredients to your pet's meal, namely red meat, nutritional yeast, fish oil, vitamins, etc. Nevertheless, continue to include bones with meat from white protein and without fat. Red meat and fish oil will provide essential fatty acids needed for pets to metabolize energy and transport nutrients throughout the body.

  • Step 3: Supplement organs in the food portion, with a ratio of 84% lean meat, 6% bones, and 10% organs (liver, kidney, lungs, etc.). Since organs are the key to the raw diet of adult dogs and cats, they provide fat-soluble vitamins, water-soluble vitamins, and essential minerals.

PUPPIES AND KITTENS

When first raising a puppy or kitten, pawrents may be confused about choosing the primary food for their little companion.

Starting from your pet's 3rd month, start introducing small amounts of fresh food and add lean protein and excretory organs. Among all protein options, lean red meat is the ideal choice for introducing raw foods to puppies and kittens. As they are still growing, puppies and kittens have higher demands for vital nutrients compared to adult dogs and cats. Minerals such as iron and zinc will be found higher in red meat than in white meat.

Organs are also a great choice. All types of liver have a high content of Vitamin A. In addition, you can combine other raw components like soft bones and seafood. They are generally well-absorbed and do not cause any digestive complications when fed raw to puppies and kittens.

Here are some notes when starting the raw food journey:

  • Consult with a veterinarian before changing the diet.

  • Make sure to choose high-quality fresh foods and consider preparing the food at home.

  • Ensure a balanced and nutritious diet.

  • Adhere to hygiene rules when preparing and storing raw food.

  • Monitor your pet's health and condition after switching to a raw food diet.

  • Gradually transition the diet to allow your pet's body to adapt and digest better.

  • Before starting, thoroughly research raw food for pets and knowledge about animal nutrition.
